The harsh weekend frost cut short a busy weekend for Priory Celtic’s teams, though the U16s must have wished the cold snap had come 24 hours earlier as they where brushed aside 4-0 at home to Willington FC.

The only other game to go ahead on Saturday was the U8 friendly game against Lowdham Colts, Josh Pearson claiming the man of the match award.

Away from league football the U9 Whites enjoyed a festive treat on Saturday afternoon when they provided the half-time entertainment at Notts County’s Meadow Lane.

All ten players enjoyed the day and even got a guided tour of the Leyton Orient changing room where they met the players before the game.

More games where lost than played on Sunday, with postponements due to the weather, however the U11 Greens managed to get their game played at Sandiacre Town by delaying the match for half-an-hour.

Priory struggled to get in their stride and fell behind just before half-time, but a few words of wisdom from manager Adrian Lawes, plus the secret weapon of wine gums, inspired the boys to a much improved second-half performance.

Two goals from Joshua Wright gave the Greens three well-earned points, a result that leaves them in fifth place and with one eye on promotion to the second division.

The U10s also had a fruitful away trip, returning from Ruddington Village Colts with three points after an impressive 8-0 win, goals from Harry Maplestone (3), Bailey Brown (2), Thomas Micaleff (2) and Thomas Severn.

Taking advantage of a spare weekend, the U11 Girls entertained Eask Leake girls in a friendly encounter at the Leisure Centre.

Going into the game, the girls, in their first year together, were looking for their first win of the season and they didn’t disappoint – a hat-trick from Caitlin Dickinson handing them a 3-1 win.

The U12 Girls finished the year in style with a 3-1 victory just over the border at Ilkeston Girls FC, goals from Lucy Wade, Anna Walster and the ever reliable Sophia Bonser ensuring that Priory headed the table going into the Christmas break
