Lyric writing, street dancing, a climbing wall, arts, free food and much more will all be available for teenagers in Ilkeston and Long Eaton town centres this summer.

The Vibez summer programme of activities is aimed at giving young people something fun, active and healthy to do during the school break and is open to anyone aged 11-18, but particularly for 14-15-year-olds.

The events are being run in three locations: Long Eaton, Ilkeston and Sandiacre.

The first Long Eaton Vibez event will be on Long Eaton Market Place on Monday, July 30, from 6pm-8pm, and will then run every Monday for a month with the last event on Monday, August 20.

Ilkeston Market Place will have Ilkeston Vibez activities on Wednesdays from 6pm-8pm, beginning on August 1 with the last session being on Wednesday, August 22.

Sandiacre will host Sandiacre Vibez activities on Friday evenings, from 6-8pm starting on August 3, with the last event being held on August 24.

The events will also provide the opportunity for those taking part to have some free food with tasty snacks on offer. There will also be a Smoothie Bike, which participants can ride to create their own smoothie.

A smoothie bike is a stationary bike fitted with a special blender that spins as you pedal. Simply fill the blender with fruit and pedal away for a minute or two, and you have yourself a healthy pedal powered fruit smoothie.

Erewash Community Safety Partnership has worked with a range of partners including Erewash Borough Council; Derbyshire County Council; Derby County Community Trust; Local Artists; Avago Arts and Treehuggery to organise the project which has a key aim of offering diversionary activities to help crackdown on anti-social and nuisance behaviour during the summer break.

Activities will vary from week to week but will also include have-a-go archery, sports with Derby County Community Trust, arts and crafts and free food courtesy of Cold Cooking Opportunities to promote healthy eating.
