Derby arts centre Quad will be hosting two events to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day 2013.
A special Holocaust Memorial Day Event, covering this years’ theme Communities Together: Build a Bridge takes place on Monday, January 28, at 7pm.
The event will be an evening of words, music and dance to commemorate the victims of genocide, including Stalin’s forced famine in Ukraine, 1932-33, the Nazi Holocaust, the massacres of the Bosnian war, and the on-going persecution of the Roma communities.
Phil Tomlinson will be playing music from the Jewish Community, and Joe Kupranec presents Hoverla, internationally award-winning dancers and singers from Derby’s Ukrainian Community.
There will also be input from other communities in Derby.
Admission is free, but places are limited, tickets can be booked in advance through Quad box office.
Quad will also be screening the Oscar-winning documentary that tells of the extraordinary rescue operation that brought 10,000 children from German-held lands to Great Britain in the months prior to World War II.
Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories Of The Kindertransport is narrated by Dame Judi Dench and is followed by a Q&A session with Steven Mendelsson, a ‘Kindertransportee’ who stayed in England after the war and now lives in Sheffield.
