Showcase Cinema de Lux in Derby has an exciting schedule of opera beamed live from New York’s Metropolitan Opera House direct to its cinema screen in HD and surround sound over the next few months.
Kicking off the season will be John Adams’s hugely acclaimed 1987 re-imagining of events on Richard Nixon’s historic 1972 trip to see Mao Tse-Tung. It can be seen on February 12 from 6pm.
Later operas in the season include Donizetti’s Lucia Di Lammermoor, Richard Strauss’s Capriccio, Wagner’s Die Walkure and Verdi’s Il Trovatore.
Karen Fox, general manager of Showcase and Showcase Cinema de Lux, said: “We are delighted to be able to give classical fans a chance to see these outstanding performances live on the big screen, as the next best thing to being in New York in person. More exciting live performances are planned for the rest of the year and will be announced very soon.”
Tickets are available now from the cinema box office, at www.cinemadelux.co.uk or via the 24 hour ticket hotline on 0871 220 1000. Tickets for the live performances cost £12.50 for adults, and £10 for NUS card holders and Insider loyalty members.
