Dalesmen team up with top trombonist

The Dalesmen Male Voice Choir

One of Derbyshire’s finest male voice choirs, the Belper-based Dalesmen have decided to hold a summer concert in Wirksworth Town Hall, near the birthplace of the choir in Middleton.

It is to take place on Sunday, July 27, from 4pm.

The reasons behind the concert were twofold in that Wirksworth was the home of the choir’s late president, Reverend Reg Dean, who died at the incredible age of 110 as Britain’s oldest male in January 2013, in Waltham House where he spent his last few years.

The choir also wanted to continue to support fundraising for Age UK Derby & Derbyshire with another concert, as the charity was very supportive of Reg at his most vulnerable time of life.

The concert will feature a range of songs from the Dalesmen well suited to a summer afternoon but the feature of the concert is the appearance of Chris Dean, son of Reg and leader of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, one of the world’s finest trombonists. Chris plays all over the world with many top singers and musicians, including recently Robbie Williams. Chris is relishing an opportunity to be among many of the caring people who were incredibly supportive of Reg and were amongst his father’s closest friends.

Doors open from 3.45pm. Tickets are available on the door and are £8, which will include fruit cake or a scone and tea. The concert is scheduled to finish by approximately 6pm.
