Who’s Next bring their tribute to The Who to The Flowerpot in Derby on Friday, April 26.
Who’s Next capture a magical point in time when many believe that The Who were the greatest rock and roll band on earth.
The tribute band’s live show aims to recreate this period in the early 1970s with the aid of authentic stage wear and instruments.
The result is a time capsule ride back to the days of Live at Leeds, The Isle of Wight Festival, Tanglewood and the Fillmore shows. It is a must for any Who fan.
Their set includes all of Pete Townshend’s classic pop songs from Mod classics such as I Can’t Explain, Substitute and Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere to the psychedelic imagery of Tommy’s Pinball Wizard, Sparks and Amazing Journey, not forgetting rock anthems like My Generation, Baba O’Riley and a show-stopping version of Won’t Get Fooled Again.
Then, on Saturday, April 27, you can see King King, featuring Alan Nimmo.
King King are fronted by one of the UK’s best blues guitarists and have been hailed as one most exciting bands around.
Winners of the Best Blues Band Best Blues Album in 2012, the meteoric rise to prominence of British bluesbreakers King King has seen them racking up a host of accolades.
Since they began touring three years ago, King King’s unique brand of multi-faceted blues rock has won over audiences as diverse as The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival, the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival, the internationally acclaimed Belgium Rhythm & Blues Festival in Peer and even Glastonbury.
Touring throughout Europe and Scandinavia, the band have attracted enthusiastic audiences both as an impressive live act and on the airwaves, with veteran BBC DJ and blues aficionado Paul Jones being moved to remark: “Here at Radio 2, we think Alan Nimmo and King King are going to go all the way”, following their two live sessions at the BBC’s legendary Maida Vale studios.
The driving force behind King King’s unstoppable charge is Alan Nimmo, a virtuoso frontman possessed of an almost impolite level of charisma and the talent to back it up.
An award-winning bluesman in his own right and widely known across the UK and Europe, Nimmo’s full-blooded style, technical brilliance and impassioned vocals are infectious and instantly recognisable.
Surrounding himself with the hottest talent currently working the scene has made King King an irresistible melting pot of influences. The result is a sound which is energetic, potent and irresistibly funky, to quote Guitar & Bass: “King King play the kind of blues that’ll lift the most stubborn of frowns”.
With a burgeoning fan base and continuing flood of accolades there’s no rest in sight with 2013 seeing the band release their second album “Standing In Ths Shadows” alongside an extensive UK tour and a highly anticipated debut in Germany and Austria.
Their award-winning album Take My Hand has met with a rapturous response, prompting Maverick Magazine to stamp five stars on its review.
Doors open at 8pm and admission is £9 for Who’s Next and £12 for King King.
