Rumpus Theatre Company will be looking to build on the acclaim of 2009’s production of The Signalman and 2010’s The Nightmare Room when they perform The Pit And The Pendulum in Derby next month.

The production at Derby Theatre on September 13 and 14 forms part of a major national tour and is presented in association with the Pomegranate Theatre, Chesterfield.

From the horror story to end all horror stories by Edgar Allan Poe, The Pit And The Pendulum is a chilling theatrical experience with a mystery twist in the tale.

When William Trevelyan sets out to rescue his young wife from the clutches of a wicked and lascivious Hellfire Club, he little expects to find himself their captive, tortured by the nightmare of a living grave, the nameless dread of a fathomless pit and the inevitability of the swinging pendulum with its razor-sharp blade.

It stars Mark Homer (best known for his role as Tony Hills in Eastenders) and Nicholas Briggs, who is best known as the voice of the Daleks and the Cybermen in BBC’s Doctor Who. His other TV appearances include Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Nicholas has also recently appeared in Noel Clarke’s successful feature films Adulthood” and

Performances of this feast of Gothic horror start at 7.30pm on both evenings and there will also be a matinee performance from 2.30pm on Wednesday, September 14.
