Comedy fans are in for a real treat at The Cross Keys in Belper tomorrow (Thursday) with a bumper line-up to launch the monthly Thursday stand-up nights there.
After four well-received events in recent months, compere and organiser James Wallace has settled on Thursdays as comedy night, specifically the last one of each month.
And James believes he has pulled off a real coup for the headliner for this week’s gig, securing the services of highly-rated Australian comic Daniel Burt.
He explained: “We’ve built up a nice following over recent months and originally we were going to start the Thursday events in March but I said to the landlord at the Cross Keys that if I could get a decent line-up we’d try for February.
“I put some feelers out through the usual channels and through a third party it emerged that Daniel, who has been in London for three weeks building up his UK profile, wanted to appear, which is a massive coup for us. “We’re incredibly lucky to have him. There is a genuine sense of excitement amonst people who know about this hastily arranged gig, and justly so.
“I explained that is a small set-up here and it was early days for the comedy nights, but he agreed to come, so respect to him for that. I cannot wait to meet the man. ”
Among his many achievements, Burt has written for the Late Night With David Letterman Show in the US, and has also appeared at the prestigious Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
James continued: “He has made numerous TV appearances in Australia and is very, very famous over there. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is a big deal, the festival equivalent of something like the BBC’s Live At The Apollo.”
Burt is joined on the bill by five other talented comedians: Ed Carfrae, Paul Mutagejja, Sara Mason, Pete Ffoulks and music-based comic Gwilum Argos.
