Derby Live is offering local boy actors an opportunity to audition, and be part of the cast, for one of the city’s big autumn productions, The Go-Between, which will run at Derby Theatre in October.
The Go-Between is a brand new musical drama based on the book by LP Hartley and will be a co-production between Derby Live, West Yorkshire Playhouse and Northampton Theatres.
For the Derby run of the production, the director and a team from Derby Live are looking for four boys to play the roles of Leo and Marcus in alternate performances at Derby Theatre in October.
These are major roles and for those who are interested in auditioning, they will need to commit to certain days within the rehearsal periods in both Derby and Leeds from August 8 until October 5 (actual days are still to be confirmed) and then for alternate performances from October 6-29.
Producers of The Go-Between are looking for boys with a playing age of between 10 and 12 years of age, unbroken treble voices, strong singers, ideally with some acting experience, and no more than 5 feet 4 inches in height.
The story is set in 1900, so boys with a ‘look’ of that period would be an advantage. The ability to do an RP (well spoken) accent would also be an advantage.
The initial audition will be in groups of 15 for 60 minutes each group and will take the form of a workshop and solo singing audition, when both singing and acting will be assessed (in a fun way).
Auditionees will be taught a song from the show.
They will need to wear loose clothing and bring two passport sized photos with them to the auditions.
The first auditions will be held on Sunday, June 19 between 12noon and 6pm in the Darwin Suite at the Assembly Rooms with recall auditions on Sunday, June 26, between 2pm and 6pm at the Guildhall Theatre.
