The world premiere run of Hood: The Legend Continues is being presented by Theatre Royal Nottingham and New Perspectives this week.
The new comedy, which has been written by Andy Barrett, Tim Elgood, James Graham, Laura Lomas, Mufaro Makubika, Brian Mitchell and Joseph Nixon, can be seen at the Theatre Royal from September 17-26.
On Friday, September 25, the Theatre Royal Nottingham will celebrate its 150th anniversary. To celebrate this landmark occasion, and to showcase some of the region’s best creative talent, a brand new play has been commissioned, based on the ballads of Robin Hood.
Set in the century and a half from 1865 to the present day, to reflect the Theatre Royal’s 150th anniversary, it has been written by some of the region’s most talented playwrights and co-produced by leading touring theatre company New Perspectives.
The production will star Adam Morris, Ewen MacIntosh, Jonah Russell, Jasmine Blackborow, Ed Thorpe and Alex Bedward.
Adam Morris, best known for playing Robin Hood in the much-loved children’s TV series, Maid Marian and her Merry Men, will play the Sheriff while new talent Jasmine Blackborow will take the role of Marian.
Ewen MacIntosh is a best known for playing Keith, the accountant in The Office, and has also had roles in Little Britain, Miranda and Lead Balloon.
Robert Sanderson, managing director of the Theatre Royal Nottingham, said: “I was determined that the theatre’s 150th anniversary should be marked by something tangible, something creative and lasting.
“This new play will be the perfect showcase for our city’s remarkably talented creative community.
“The writers’ individual styles have given these well-known characters an intriguingly fresh approach and the play as a whole brings the legend of Robin Hood, his feistiness and rebelliousness, bang up to date. I am very much looking forward to sharing it with our audiences when they see it on the Theatre Royal stage.”
