Scargill group props appeal

VILLAGERS, who are putting on a play about the life of a famous rector, are on the look-out for props.

The play is part of the celebrations for the 350th anniversary of the death of John Scargill, who bequeathed a legacy to West Hallam.

The play is set during the English Civil War and one scene involves villagers rallying to the church to defend Scargill from roving Cromwellian soldiers.

Organiser Alan Cooper said: “We can’t use real scythes, sickles or hammers because there are several young children taking part. So we are looking for wooden agricultural implements or simulated ones that look dangerous but aren’t.”

Call Alan on 0115 932 1729 if you can help.

The play is at Scargill School, Beech Lane on June 20, 21 and 22 at 7pm. Tickets are £6.
