Here are some of the best deals in the January sales at John Lewis, Next, M&S, Currys PC World, Selfridges, Amazon and more

The January sales are a firm tradition in the shopping calendar when sizeable bargains can be found on homeware, electrical goods, clothing and much more.

Despite the lockdown measures in place around the country, people were still out in force at stores and malls to secure the biggest discounts after Boxing Day, with even larger numbers buying items online – so it’s likely that the New Year event will have exactly the same effect.

Some retailers have already been cutting prices on a range of items ahead of January 1. Here are some of the best deals.

The partnership’s ‘winter sale’ is now under way, offering half price discounts on clothes for women and men, furniture, lighting and electricals. Customers can save £75 on Dyson V7 Motorhead Extra vacuum cleaners, while Sennheiser HD 458BT noise-cancelling headphones are now £99, down from £169. Women’s Barbour jackets from Alexa Chung’s range are reduced to clear, discounted from £329 to £164.50.

M&S

Marks & Spencer is running a sale offering up to 50 per cent off swathes of its stock. A Sonoma triple wardrobe is 20 per cent cheaper, down from more than £1,000 to £879.20, while a Rupert large sofa is now £599.40, a reduction of 40 per cent from £999.

Next is promising ‘at least 50 per cent off’ all of its sale items online. In the women’s clothing range, a paisley print mini dress now costs £13.50 instead of £42, while a washed black denim jacket is priced £16, down from £32. There are several deals on men’s coats – a puppytooth car coat is now £45, reduced from £99, and a black shower-resistant trench coat also costs £45, down from £95.

Currys PC World

Currys PC World traditionally takes part in the January sales and this year will be no exception. Already a Samsung The Frame full HD television has been discounted from £499 to £399, while a HP Pavilion 14 inch laptop in silver is now £529, having previously been £699.

House of Fraser

There are savings of up to 50 per cent at House of Fraser, as well as 20 per cent off all full-price items online if customers use the code ‘GIFT20’ when checking out. There are plenty of deals on the beauty range – Yves Saint Laurent Fusion Ink Foundation is now £18, down from £36, and a DKNY Be Delicious perfume set is £20, reduced from £40.

H&M

H&M says it is giving customers up to 50 per cent off selected lines online and in store, although deals of up to 70 per cent off can be found on the chain’s website. A men’s wool blend coat is £35, down from £69.99, and a women’s faux fur jacket in dark grey has been reduced from £59.99 to £25.

Habitat

The homeware company is taking up to 50 per cent off selected lines. A Fenner orange velvet three seater sofa is now £1,120 rather than £1,600, while an Ivar black and brass floor lamp costs £68, down from £85. Delivery is free on orders over £50, excluding furniture and bulky items.

Topshop

Topshop may be seeking a buyer after its owner Arcadia went into administration but its January sales are continuing unabated. There’s up to 60 per cent off many items now – an animal print textured midi dress is £20, down from £39.99, Indigo Orson skinny jeans are £20 rather than £42 and Mistress tan leather croc block boots are £44.99, discounted from £89.99.

Amazon

Amazon’s January sale is yet to begin, but deals of 70 per cent off or more on certain items can already be found on the online giant’s pages. An Oral-B Smart 5 5000 CrossAction electric toothbrush now costs £54.99, 68 per cent less than its original price of £169.99. In addition, Amazon frequently runs ‘Lightning deals’, which last a limited amount of time.

Selfridges

Selfridges’ online sale promises up to 60 per cent off many items. There are deals on designer goods from top brands such as Balmain and Givenchy, as well as discounts on Le Creuset kitchenware and Fitbit smart watches.
