Head praised for turning round failing Skegby school in just two terms
Healdswood Infant and Nursery School has been rated Good overall and parts Outstanding by an Ofsted report after it was previously judged as Requiring Improvement.
The inspection team said The drive and ambition of the headteacher Lucy Peet who has been at the school for two terms, were fully supported by an effective leadership team and purposeful governing body.

Hide AdConsequently, pupils’ progress is accelerating and the quality of teaching has improved sharply since the last inspection.
Head teacher Lucy Peet said: “The staff is extremely dedicated and highly skilled and we are all excited about the direction in which the school is now moving.
She added: “We have high standards at Healdswood – not only in uniform, attendance, punctuality and behaviour but also in ‘old school’ values such as politeness and good manners.”
Inspectors visited the Barker Avenue school in July and concluded the achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management were all good.

Hide AdTeaching was sometimes outstanding. Marking and feedback are used well and teaching assistants make a good contribution to pupils’ learning.
Children make an outstanding start to their education in the Early Years Foundation Stage and are very inquisitive and eager to learn when they start Year 1.
However teachers did not consistently encourage pupils to speak as clearly and accurately as they should when they answered questions or pave information. Pupils’ grammar, spelling and handwriting were not always as good as they needed to be.
