A number of food businesses at the Idlewells Market have introduced a delivery service to help Ashfield’s most vulnerable residents.

Organisers say the service, to provide fresh meat, fish, fruit and vegetables will help people during the “difficult days” during the coronavirus crisis and will help to put “minds at rest.”

Colledges Butchers, Larvin’s Fruit and Vegetables, Nigel’s Fresh Fish and Spice are continuing to provide their services, with up to 30 deliveries every day. Larvin’s have also recently made a special delivery of five food packs to five “heroic” nurses at City Hospital in Nottingham.

The service has been welcomed by customers. The service has been welcomed by customers.

Councillor Jason Zadrozny, Leader of the Council said: “Our indoor market traders have put in a tremendous effort to ensure residents still have access to their essentials. Receiving a delivery of the quality food that these traders provide is a small but very much appreciated action for some of the most vulnerable in our community.

“The customer feedback so far has been great so with a lot of mainstream supermarkets struggling to provide online delivery slots, I encourage more people to consider using our fantastic traders at Idlewells.”

The businesses have already received feedback from the community.

One customer said she was “really impressed with these guys, not only staying open during these uncertain times to provide for their community but also the great customer service and speedy delivery… thank you so much.”

Another said: “Just had my first fruit and veg box delivered, amazing price and quality, couldn’t ask for a better service.”

The market itself is still open to the public from 9am to 1pm Monday to Saturday. Customers should note that access is only available from the bus station entrance. Visitors are encouraged to adhere to the government’s social distancing advice of staying two metres apart at all times.

Customers who wish to book a delivery can do so by calling the traders directly: Larvins Fruit and Vegetables – 07478 578156, Colledges Butchers – 01623 554374,
