Public Health England figures show that 54,705 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am on Thursday, April 1 – up from 54,631 the same time on Wednesday.
The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

Hide AdAcross the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 4,478 over the period, to 4,350,266.
Nottinghamshire's cases were among the 323,224 recorded across the East Midlands, a figure which rose by 465 over the period.
Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
In Mansfield, the infection rate for the seven-day period up to and including March 27 was 87.8 cases per 100,000 people – with the Woodhouse ward having the highest rolling rate in the district with 234.8 cases per 100,000, a 66.7 per cent rise on the previous period.

Hide AdThe area with the lowest figures in Mansfield is King’s Walk, Berry Hill and Oakham, where the rate stands at 32.5 per 100,000.
In neighbouring Ashfield the figure for the same period stood at 88.3 cases per 100,000 – where East Kirkby has the highest seven-day rolling rate with 211.3 cases per 100,000, while Skegby and South Dales recorded fewer than three cases in the same period.
Meanwhile, in Newark & Sherwood the infection rate up to March 27 was 90.7 cases per 100,000.
The rate for England is 54.2 cases per 100,000, while the figure for the United Kingdom is 54.5 per 100,000.

Hide AdIn the Mansfield area for the 24 hours up to April 1, there was one reported death after testing positive for Covid-19 within 28 days – bringing the total number of fatalities in the district to 275.
There were no deaths in Ashfield in the same period, where the death toll stands at 314.
In Newark & Sherwood one person died in the 24 hours up to April 1, which means the total number of people who have died in the district within 28 days of testing positive for Covid 19 is 204.
