Staff and pupils at Kingsway primary school have paid tribute to parents who are going beyond the call of duty as they look after patients and vulnerable people and carry out vital work during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Teachers and teaching assistants have also let pupils know they are missing them by taking part in a special picture message posted on their Facebook page.

Headteacher Sam Bradbury said: “We have done a huge rainbow at our front entrance and called it the Kingsway Primary Rainbow of Hope because we are still open to key workers' children and we have been through the Easter holidays

“We have parents who work as carers and the NHS so children are really aware with having to come into school that their parents are out doing vital work in the community.- it's just an acknowledgement of that. The children are really aware of what we are doing and why we are doing it.

“There's a big rainbow on the front and little ones at the side and they've done it as that celebration . We have said every time somebody drives past on Kingsway past the school they can see the rainbow from the road as a reminder we can say to our community we are supporting them and we recognise the work they are doing.

“We have done the messages because we miss all of our children and keeping in touch with 384 children is quite difficult so we did a message out to them from the teachers and the teaching assistants.

“It was a way of just connecting because we know how difficult it is at the moment.

“We are tying to provide parents with things that they can do at home, but we are well aware that this it is no way replicating a school situation.

“It is a team at Kingsway and we miss not having all our team members here and the most important team members are the children.”
