The latest infection rates in Mansfield and Ashfield as new case numbers fall

The COVID-19 infection rates in Mansfield and Ashfield have fallen significantly in the last week, with new case numbers dropping by more than 100 in both areas.

In Mansfield the infection rate is now 143.6 per 100,000 of the population. This means there were 157 new cases in the week to November 29.

The previous week, in the seven days to November 22, the infection rate was 266.2, meaning there were 291 new cases.

In Ashfield the infection rate in the week to November 29 was 163.4 (209 new cases). This fell from 263.5 the week before, when there was 337 new cases.

Nottinghamshire is currently in Tier 3 COVID-19 restrictions, after the national lockdown ended on December 2.

This will be reviewed for the first time on December 16, when some places could be moved down into lower tiers if the infection rate is sufficiently low.

Yesterday, NHS figures revealed that four more patients died in Sherwood Forest hospitals.

A majority of areas in England (266 out of 315) have seen a fall in case rates.

Unlike in previous weeks, the areas with the highest rates are in the south of the country.

Swale in Kent continues to have the highest rate, with 867 new cases recorded in the seven days to November 29 – the equivalent of 577.7 cases per 100,000 people.

This is up from 529.7 in the seven days to November 22.

Medway – also in Kent – has the second highest rate, up from 439.8 to 559.7, with 1,559 new cases.
