Sutton youngsters are superstars at Nottingham Forest fitness challenge

Children at Leamington Primary Academy in Sutton-in-Ashfield took on a challenge set by Nottingham Forest Community Trust (NFCT) as part of a healthy lifestyle drive.

And they did it so well, they beat their original target 20 times over.

The aim was for children to run a total of 25 kilometres during the lunch break challenge, echoing the distance between the school and Nottingham Forest’s City Ground home.

Taking part were children from years three, four, five and six, who all managed to reach their targets, running laps in their own bubble zone.

Oli Tatterson, PE lead at the school, said. “The children went on to surpass the target set, totalling a whopping 523 kilometres in all.

"It is so important for children to lead a healthy active lifestyle and seeing smiles on their faces every day in PE is just brilliant.

“The programme we set promoted a healthy and active lifestyle for children and with help from the NFCT we have created a real focus on this.

"The children learnt about the importance of having a healthy balanced diet in workshops with the inspirational coaches from NFCT before embarking upon the challenge.

“Everyone was completely blown away with the determination and resilience shown by all key stage two classes, who not only managed to successfully complete the challenge, they totally smashed it.The collective total distance was 523.32 kilometres – enough to travel all the way from Sutton to the Stade Pierre Mauroy, home of Lille FC in France.
