Bin-cleaner scoops £1.3m from £2 bet

A Mansfield Woodhouse wheelie-bin cleaner is celebrating after netting more than £1.3m from a £2 stake that he placed at a betting shop in the town.

Craig Brazier has won a total of £1,342,599 after he popped into his local Betfred branch and spent his last £2 on last weekend’s bumper Scoop6 payout, following a visit to a fishing tackle shop.

The 39-year-old, who has vowed to carry on cleaning bins, could land a further £5,481,763 by picking the winner of this weekend’s bonus race.

The father-of-two told Chad that it was only the third time he had played the Scoop6 accumulator, and picked all six winners.

He said: “I’d spent most of my money on fishing gear, but I had £2 in my pocket so I nipped into the Betfred shop as I knew there was a huge rollover.

“It was only the third time I’d played the Scoop6 and I had four winners the week before.

“I went home to watch the racing and started panicking after I got three out of three.

“My last horse Chatez runs for Alan King, my favourite-ever trainer. I couldn’t see the telly because I was running round the room riding the horse.

“I went absolutely berserk when he won and I was still up at 4am wondering if it had really happened.

“On Sunday I went fishing to let it all sink in, but all I caught was some sleep on the bank.

“My biggest previous win was on New Year’s Day in 2008 when Blazing Bailey landed me a Lucky 15.

“Since that day I’ve always said I’d have a horse with Alan King if I had enough money. Now I might have two.”

Craig’s winning streak began with Bear Behind coming in at 16/1 at the 2.05pm at Haydock, followed by Conry at 17/2 at the 2.50pm at Catterick.

He followed this up with Wee Jean romping home at 8/1 in the 2.55pm at Goodwood.

Then, 15 minutes later, Jjoyeuse came in ahead at 3/1 in the 3.10pm at Haydock, followed by Jonny Cavagin, also at 3/1, coming in at the 3.25pm at Catterick.

And Haydock proved third time lucky for Craig when, at 3.35pm, Chatez stormed home for a win - making the bin cleaner a millionaire in less than two hours.

Betfred boss Fred Done said: “I’m delighted for all eight winners, but particularly Craig as he placed his bet in one of my shops.

“He clearly has a knack for the Scoop6 and I hope he goes on to land the big bonus on Saturday.”

Others who shared the record £10,740,797 jackpot have stayed anonymous.
