Burglar threatened terrified Mansfield couple with metal bar

Daniel Amatt, 29, broke the front door of a flat in Walesby Court, Mansfield and entered the property while the couple were at home just before 8pm on Wednesday, July 6.
Amatt, also of Walesby Court, threatened the couple with a metal bar, before smashing holes in the interior doors of the flat.

Hide AdThe couple fled to the kitchen, where they remained until officers arrived and Amatt was quickly arrested.
He was later charged with burglary, which he pleaded guilty to at Nottingham Crown Court at an earlier hearing.
Amatt was sentenced via video link and was given an 18-month community order, ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work, attend a course of 31 thinking skills sessions and was ordered to pay £180 in costs.
Detective Constable Tim Baker from Nottinghamshire Police said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victims, who luckily were not hurt during this incident although they are understandably shocked.
