Kirkby drink driver caught after downing 12 cans of beer the night before

Stephen Miles was driving a Ford S-Max, on Mansfield Road, Annesley, at 5.30pm, on September 6, last year, when he was pulled over, said prosecutor Sanjay Jerath.
He gave a positive reading at the roadside and later recorded 138 mlgs of alcohol in 100 mls of urine, when the legal limit is 107 mlgs.

Hide AdThe court heard he has 28 previous convictions for 81 offences, the majority of which are for dishonesty.
In 2004 he was convicted of dangerous driving and ordered to take the extended re-test, which he hasn't done.
But the time limit in which he could have been charged with driving while disqualified has been passed, the court heard.
Anna Sood, mitigating, said Miles, whose income varies because he is on a zero-hours contract, deserved credit for his early guilty plea.

Hide Ad"He drank 12 cans of beer the night before without eating, but presumed he would not have any alcohol left in his system," she said.
She said he has kept out of trouble since 2019, adding that he has sold his car since the incident.
Miles, 38, of Ashfield Drive, Kirkby, pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving without insurance, when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates Court, on Friday.
On Friday, magistrates fined him £120, with £85 court costs and a £34 surcharge.
