Fears for future of theft hit Kirkby business

Kirkby business Thermacom has been broken into three times in a week

David Lipscombe , operations manager at Thermacom Ltd, has said jobs could be at risk if the business cannot recover from the thefts which have caused thousands of pounds of damage.

“I feel like I am beating my head against a brick wall,” he said.

“Within the first week of opening and trying to expand the business and bring jobs to the area, we have been hit three times in the space of seven days.

It is really concerning because we did not account for this in our budget.”

“I know the police are doing what they can but we need to see more preventative action being taken.”

The business, which also has a base in Reading, has now installed a top of the range alarm system.

But it is appealing for anyone who may have seen the burglaries take place or know any information about the people responsible to contact the police on 101.

It is not known how much the items stolen and damage caused has cost, but thieves stole copper cables, taps, sinks and flooded the offices.

Mr Lipscombe added: “We have had to completely gut the offices and put new carpets in.

“I just feel like giving up, we had only just handed over the keys and after the first burglary we tried to get back on our feet as quickly as possible.

“We had a delivery and not long after that we were broken into again and had items stolen. It is the company’s 20th anniversary in May, so this has been a disappointing start to the year.”

Thermacom Ltd has been running for two years but only exchanged keys to the new property on 6th February.

A Nottinghamshire police spokesperson said: “We have made enquiries in the area and increased patrols to deter further crime. Support and advice is being offered to the business owner in bid bolster security at the site.
