Mansfield mayor: Terror attacks were '˜too close for comfort'

Mansfield mayor Kate Allsop has spoken of her shock after she narrowly missed becoming caught up in the Westminister terror attacks.

She had been attending a meeting in Westminister at the time of the attacks.

The meeting finished just before 3 and she said she usually catches the tube from Westminister but as she was wearing high heels she googled where the nearest station was using her phone.

The result was St James’ Park station, causing her to walk away from the unfolding scene of terror.

She said: “There was no lock down at that time. I turned left instead of right luckily. The first I knew of it was when my husband called me in a panic.”

“I called my family to let them know I was ok then. It was far too close for comfort.”

She said she had been left “shocked” by the attack.

She said: “My heart goes out to the families and I send my condolences to those involved. We are British so we’ve got to keep calm and carry on. This won’t stop me doing my job and I’ll continue to go to Westminister.”
