Many of those who do not think that driving instructors should have this new power thought so due to the danger of new drivers on roads.
Rob Sharp said: “I totally disagree, the standard of driving in this country is ridiculous at the moment.“If an instructor has his examiners qualifications then yes the student should be able to apply for a test but not many instructors are qualified examiners.”
Emma Wilson agrees.
She said: “We don't want unsafe drivers on the road, causing more accidents and potential harm to the rest of us who had to sit the test to be able to drive.“People can't be let off doing the test just because of Covid-19, they should have to wait until tests are available.”

This was 27 per cent of the overall vote.
Chelsey Nicholls, said: ““I think it would cut half the nerves out of having to sit with an examiner and you'd probably be less likely to make mistakes due to the fact the person isn't a stranger.”
Michelle Jackson said: “Yes most people fail because of nerves on the driving test.”
Some readers offered alternative suggestions.
Madeline Greenwood, said: “They could have two cameras, one on the driver and one on the road.

Paula Dear, said: “Make all the people who's driving instructor has passed then have the P plates on the vehicle for a year.”
