Ashfield hospice chosen as Nottinghamshire Police Chief's Charity for 2021-22

John Eastwood Hospice Trust, in Mansfield Road, Sutton, provides palliative care to people with advanced or progressive diseases such as cancer, motor-neurone disease and other long-term conditions.

The centre has an in-patient unit, caring for 12 patients, and a day hospice which operates Monday to Friday. They work in conjunction with specialist NHS palliative care services to assist in the organisation and delivery of specialist care both within the hospice and in the community to patients with a variety of complex needs.

Each year, the force nominates a charity within Nottinghamshire to support. Officers and staff get involved and raise money, giving something back to the communities they serve, and make a difference for a local charity that supports the surrounding communities.

Following a force-wide vote, the hospice won, accumulating 24 per cent of the votes, and fundraising will begin later this month.

All money raised will contribute towards the £450,000-a-year running costs of the hospice.

Hannah Rocha-Leite, the Chief's charity co-ordinator, said: “Over the last year the force has supported the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. We're awaiting the final results, but we anticipate we have raised in excess of £3,000 for the charity which is a fantastic effort.

“Our Chief Constable, Craig Guildford, will be heading over to visit the hospice as soon as it is safe to do so, and we're looking forward to supporting the John Eastwood Hospice Trust and the money we raise will make a big difference in the lives of so many people."
