Remembrance artwork goes on display at railway station near Mansfield

East Midlands Railway’s Routes of Remembrance project has seen eight community groups across the train service operator’s network create an individual artwork piece representing their community – and all eight pieces fit together to create one overall installation.

In Nottinghamshire, Langwith’s Rhubarb Farm has created one of the pieces, which has gone on display, alongside a plaque and QR code, at Langwith-Whaley Thorns Railway Station, on the Robin Hood Line between Nottingham and Worksop.

Will Rogers, EMR managing director, said “The artworks are brilliant.

“Each piece tells its own story about their area and then when the pieces come together, they cleverly create a new image.

“It is important we never forget the past and it’s great to see people from all generations remembering those who were brave enough to risk their lives for the world we live in today.”

As well as the art installation, EMR is holding services of Remembrance at Nottingham and Derby railway stations on Armistice Day, November 11, while special Routes of Remembrance lanyards have been created for staff.

The eight individual pieces will travel across the East Midlands by rail and be installed to create one large piece of art at both Nottingham and Derby stations, in time for the services.

Donna Adams, EMR head of external relations, said: “It has been wonderful to be part of this community project, seeing how each group represents their local area and finding out what Remembrance means to them.”
