Plans for 100 home development set to be decided

The planning committee of Newark and Sherwood Council is due to decide whether to give the green light for the development on an area of farmland.

The applicant New Lane Blidworth LLP Has submitted plans for 100 dwellings with access, earthworks and other ancillary and enabling works on land at New Lane.

Objectors backed by Blidworth Parish Council say the development would destroy a local amenity and the infrastructure roads, schools and health provision of the parish would not be able to cope.

They say the development would be hazardous for vulnerable people in the area.

A Facebook group opposing the plans, Saving Blidworth Meadows has 649 members.

Resident Karen Ramscar said: “The development will be just 10ft from sheltered housing for the elderly and disabled. The development would have an overbearing impact on housing for vulnerable people

“New Lane is a very narrow country lane and is not suitable for a large development. It is used by elderly and disabled people and is already hazardous. It is part of a national cycle route and is used by horses and riders.

“There is a public footpath which runs across the meadows and they will get rid of that altogether.

“We could not as a village sustain an increase of that size - the roads would not be able to cope.”

In its design statement the applicant states :“A hundred new dwellings are proposed, including a wide range of properties from two to four bedrooms, of which 19 will be affordable homes for rent.

“This will create a wide variety of homes, designed to meet the needs of the community, providing opportunities for local people, whether moving up or downsizing, to stay in the village. The proposed layout, with multiple pedestrian connections to its surroundings ensures good and convenient access to facilities and services.”
