Sutton girl to star in BBC3’s Junior Paramedics

Twenty-year-old Lucy Wright will star with fellow students on Junior Paramedics, a seven-part series on BBC3, following her training as a paramedic in the East Midlands.

Lucy, from Sutton, studied her A Levels in film, media, English and biology at the college between 2010 and 2013, before going on to study a Foundation Degree in Paramedic Science at the University of Northampton.

As part of her course she is now on a year-long placement with the East Midlands Ambulance Service based in Leicester.

The BBC approached the university to film students on placement to show what life as a trainee paramedic is like.

The series follows the lives of nine student paramedics as they experience their six weeks’ placement with the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

It shows them being thrown on to the emergency frontline at the busiest time of year in the lead up to Christmas when the ambulance service is pushed to breaking point.

Lucy said: “Audiences will be able to see a snapshot of what me and my trainee colleagues have to deal with on a daily basis such as attending road traffic collisions and the helping to get long-term care for patients and dealing with the elderly.

“It was quite exciting to be filmed and I’ve really enjoyed working alongside fully-trained paramedic staff.

“I’m really looking forward to starting my emergency driving course and becoming a qualified paramedic.”

Junior Paramedics first airs on BBC3 on Thursday 27th February at 9pm.
