Telephone box marks World War 1 centenary

The phone box at Ravenshead precinct has been decked out with dozens of knitted poppies in its latest guise thanks to the artistic efforts of resident Alan Browne.

Alan , 72, said: ”Ravenshead Precinct was built in the 1960’s and the Post Office opened in 1966 with the ‘phone box adjacent to it.

“The Parish Council purchased the (redundant) ‘phone box two years ago for £1.00 from BT. I adopted it and gave it a coat of red paint with a view to having various displays in it. To date there has been displays for Christmas, Easter, 100 years of women’s suffrage.

“The current display depicts the centenary of the end of World War One. Various local people have provided me with materials and several ladies of the Parish have knitted over seventy-five poppies as their contribution.”
