Bolehill sides both out of cup

The second round of games in the Bob McCartin Six Red Cup saw Belper’s Jaxx Q Club edge out Bolehill Institute No 2 4-3 in Group A.

Tim Maslin, Ben Turner and Jak Groom all registered to see the home team surge 3-0 ahead before Martin Forster stopped the rot with an excellent break of 30.

Turner and Kevin Holmes then took the decisive scotch doubles leg before the visitors rallied to close to the minimum margin.

Edgefold No 1 all but secured their place in the quarter-finals with a 5-2 win over Bolehill No 1.

Richard Ferguson’s finish of 33 saw the hosts off to a good start while Simon Zoppi was the most impressive of the Bolehill side.

In Group B Belper Strutt No 2 won 5-2 at Matlock Club while Belper Strutt No 1 triumphed 6-1 at home to Matlock Cons in Group C. Steve Bullock won all three frames he contested while Nick Kay (26 break) made sure there was no whitewash.

Cons bounced back in a re-arranged J K Interiors & Joinery Services League encounter later in the week triumphing 3-2 over Edgefold No 2. Martyn Taylor’s 43 break still couldn’t earn him frame success against Richard Deakin while Chris Parker’s black ball win in frame three proved pivotal.
