Hoole says Clipstone must stick to the plan after FA Vase exit

Clipstone manager Dave Hoole is taking the positives out of defeat.

The Cobras missed out on a big pay day when they were beaten 3-2 on penalties after the tie had ended 2-2 in 90 minutes.

It left the Clipstone gaffer disappointed by his side’s sloppy defending and naivety at getting dragged into a dog-fight.

“We passed the ball about really well in the opening 15 minutes and looked good,” he said. “Then we stopped doing what we do best and two sloppy bits of defending allowed them back into the game.

“It is the type of scrappy game that we need to avoid getting dragged into. We need to keep doing what we do best and that is something we need to work on.

“The boys know they let themselves and the club down. It would have been Ollerton in the next round and a nice pay day.”

Clipstone hit the front on nine minutes when Marcus Beddoe laid it on a plate for Chib Chilaka to tap home.

Nathan Kelly levelled from the spot nine minutes later after Mamoke Akauna was brought down.

Jack Warwick put Clipstone ahead on half-time after Chris Smith headed a Jason Foster free-kick into his path.

But the visitors levelled for the second time on 63 minutes when Ashleigh Smith finished off a counter-attack.

Nathan Kelly was sent off for a second bookable offence on 89 miutes.

But, despite ‘keeper Ryan Skidmore saving three penalties and Richard Williams and Jason Foster scoring their spot kicks, Clipstone were beaten.
