Heanor Town donate FA Vase prize money to former Mansfield Town player Scott Rogers following double leg break

Heanor Town have donated £1,200 of FA Vase prize money to Scott Rogers after he suffered a broken leg in their 4-3 win over Coleshill Town.

The former Mansfield Town player suffered a double fracture during the FA Vase 2nd Round match on Saturday after he was the victim of a late challenge which fractured his tibia and fibula on impact.

Rogers has been a valued squad player for Heanor in two spells over the last 18 months.

The players involved in the match also donated half of their expenses from Saturday to their injured team-mate, while former Lion, Nathan Benger also added to the amount Rogers will receive.

The final amount that will be gifted to Roger is unknown as yet, with more donations expected over the next few days.

Scott Ward, general manager at the club, said: “It is a fantastic gesture by our chairman to donate the prize money to Scott and also hats off to the players and management for their donations.

“It just goes to prove the Heanor family is as strong as ever.”

Chairman, Geoff Clarence added: “Having broken my leg playing football I know how Scott must be feeling. Six months in plaster and another three months of physiotherapy can be a lonely place, but I’m sure Scott will be supported by everyone at the club to keep his sprits high.

“Financially the club will do whatever it can to support Scott with donations from the club, the management and the players already pledged.

“Heanor Town FC are a community based club and it’s that community sprit which makes me proud to be its chairman.”

With the lengthy lay off Rogers will now suffer it is unclear when he will be able to play football again.

If anyone does want to add a donation to assist Scott Rogers as he faces a lengthy lay off from work due to this injury, please contact Scott Ward or any club official at the match on Saturday.
