The Villagers were battered 7-0 at Coventry Sphinx on Tuesday night to leave them rock-bottom of the Midland Football League’s Premier Division with nine defeats from nine.

But, despite having lost every match, Selston can still draw level on points with Highgate United if they beat them at home on Saturday.

“We feel like we can get points on the board on Saturday,” he said. “They are the games where we should get points.

“It is not make or break, but it is important to put points on the board as soon as possible. It is important to win the home games if you can.

“It is a great chance, we feel we are one result away from putting a run of good results together.

“It is a game where we can build forward and put points on the board and start to put pressure on those above us.

“We have played a few games but we have not been cut adrift. There are teams still down there and a few wins can soon push us up the table and lift confidence.”

But Moore knows his faltering side, who have scored just nine league goals so far, must show a ruthless streak if they are to rack up the wins.

“We like we are performing pretty well,” he added. “There’s the odd mistakes costing us goals and we see how ruthless it is at this level.

“At this level you are punished for the mistakes, a half chance can end up in your net, but the league below it’s a goal every three or four chances so you get away with it more.

“We need to take the pressure off the defence and hold the ball up better to give the defence a breather.

“We are creating chances. We just have to make sure we are getting in the right areas and taking the chances when we get them and having the confidence to finish it off.

“It's just a case of keeping doing what we are doing and believing in what we are doing.

“There have been some lows, the Eastwood game came at a really good time (Selston’s FA Vase win) after the Long Eaton defeat (Selston lost 12-0) and that picked us up.

“The lads are sticking together. We talk and are open about it - it is one good result for us and we feel it will kick us on. We are still positive.”
