“It gives everyone a chance to put money back into coffers and to get out and about and fall in love with the game again.

“It is a nice thing to happen. We have full respect for the guys at the other clubs involved and have fantastic relationships with them.

“We have a special relationship with Selston who have been a rival of ours for a number of years.

“Ollerton have been having a great season and have been doing great work at the club. We have plenty of respect for Pinxton.

“They will be exciting games and it will be good to have the local element to make matches more attractive. Everyone will want to win the tournament.”

MIchael Allen, whose Staton Mortgage and Protection Specialists company is sponsoring the tournament, said it would be great to see football back.

“As a football fan myself and someone who watches Sherwood, I miss football,” he said.

“It kept me off the street when I was younger and it’s nice to be able to help and nice to be part of what the club are doing.

“It's an amazing club. So many good young lads are coming through and the last year must have been horrible for them.

“I'm a massive football fan and you don't realise how much you miss it. You don't understand the impact it has on the lives of the lads and to be able help organise the tournament with Phil is a pleasure.”

Selston will play home games at Pinxton due to their ground being used for cricket.

A 50/50 raffle is also being planned for the final with a donation made to the NHS.
